Ageing of the population and novel treatment strategies prolonging the lives of cardiac patients led to an increase in the incidence of heart failure. Despite improved treatments the mortality rate in patients with heart failure is very high. Early diagnosis is critically important, as early treatment of the disease gives the best possible results.
